The name Il Cerchio is the Italian word for circle. What do we first think of when picturing a circle in our minds? I see a pebble thrown into a lake making ripples in the water, the sun shining through our daily lives, the moon lighting up the night sky.
A circle has no beginning or end and for millennia it has been a recurring theme in the fields of philosophy, esotericism, and magic. Its continuum is a symbol of harmony and the passing of time. In its balance, I see the energies of the universe and earth merging.
We can obtain a circle by shaping any line. It is the constant strive for perfection, harmonious lines and the vision of balance that make the core of each Il Cerchio pipe.
My maxim is leave nothing to chance. Every line, angle and curve are of the same importance. Every detail is looked after with care, and I strive to convey my passion in each pipe in a way that only the human hand can impart.
I view the chimera of perfection not as a limit but as a push to better my work ceaselessly, always striving to break new barriers.
I am guided by sheer passion. If an idea or a shape does not fully convince me, I am not scared to re-evaluate it and to re-start from ground-zero. I want to feel that fervent drive accompanying me throughout the whole process leading to the finished product.
The artisan that devotes body and soul into a creative process leaves a part of himself into the object thus becoming an indelible signature. When a smoker decides to purchase a handmade pipe, he or she receives an object encapsulating that artisan’s experience, growth and passion which are demonstrated through its shape, finish, and lines.
A circle is a symbol of perfection, therefore a juxtaposition to the human nature which is inherently imperfect. It is only through emotions that humans can reach a higher status in their circle of life. This is my philosophy behind Il Cerchio pipes.
